The highway at the Rohtang Pass serves as one of the most important highways for the Indian military force. In order to make the highway safer the Indian Government began to construct Rohtang Tunnel in the year 2010. The main purpose of making the 8.8km horseshoe shaped tunnel was to allow connectivity to the places of Lahaul-Spiti. Completion of the tunnel will also decrease the distance between the places of Manali and Keylong by 60 kms.
